A HUMAN DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK

FOR COACHES

The Authentic Arc™ offers coaches a practical framework for understanding the person behind the player, building trust, communicating with greater clarity, and developing athletes as human beings.

Drawing on Graham Sibley's experience as a former collegiate basketball player, Emmy®-nominated actor, director, and educator, the program brings principles from the craft of acting—storytelling, empathy, presence, character development, voice, and human behavior—into the world of coaching and player development.

At its core is one simple idea:

Develop the person. Elevate the player.

Whether you're a head coach, assistant coach, player-development coach, or athletic leader, The Authentic Arc™ offers tools to help you better understand your players, communicate more effectively, and create the trust necessary for growth.

WHAT YOU'LL GET FROM THE PROGRAM

  • Practical tools for understanding player behavior and motivation

  • Techniques for building trust through curiosity and empathy

  • A framework for identifying what drives a player—their Superobjective

  • Tools for understanding the stories players tell themselves about success and failure

  • Greater awareness of your own body, breath, voice, and presence

  • More effective ways to communicate feedback and give players something they can actually play

  • A deeper understanding of how storytelling and character development can inform player development

THE 90-MINUTE TEAM PILOT

The Authentic Arc™ begins with a highly interactive 90-minute Zoom session designed for coaching staffs.

Rather than simply talking about leadership and communication, coaches experience the principles themselves through exercises drawn from the actor's process.

The session explores five connected principles:

CURIOSITY

Know the person before the player.

Coaches examine the difference between what they know about a player statistically and what they don't know about the human being. Through curiosity and empathy, we begin to understand the behavior underneath the performance.

TRANSFORMATION

Every player is on a journey.

Using the traditional story arc and the Hero's Journey, coaches explore how challenge, failure, adversity, and change shape a person's development—and how understanding that journey can change the way we coach.

PURPOSE

Understand what drives the player.

Actors identify a character's Superobjective—the deeper want that drives their choices. Coaches apply the same idea to understanding what motivates an athlete beyond statistics, playing time, or winning.

PRESENCE

Your body speaks before you do.

Drawing from the work of Kristin Linklater, Patsy Rodenburg, and the Alexander Technique, coaches explore body, breath, voice, attention, and presence—and how much a player can experience from a coach before a single word is spoken.

ACTION

Turn awareness into behavior.

The goal isn't simply insight. It's action. Coaches learn how to turn greater understanding into clearer communication, more effective feedback, and intentional behavior on and off the court.
